The Israeli oil company Dor Alon summoned an Arab worker who was subjected to a racist assault by the deputy mayor of Be’er Sheva to a hearing before his dismissal following his publication of the station’s surveillance footage that showcased the assault.
This malicious incident occurred at a Kfar Aza gas station, where Ibrahim bu Asa works, and the footage shows the Deputy Mayor, in military attire, physically assaulting Abu Asa. Despite the company’s refusal to provide the footage, Abu Asa obtained it in order to file a police report against his assaulter.
Dor Alon’s management, despite direct communication from MK Dr. Ahmad Tibi, has not shown any inclination to withdraw its plan to terminate the worker. Tibi contacted the company’s general manager, currently abroad, who arrogantly confirmed the hearing.
In response, political and social movements in the Naqab (Negev) region have initiated a mass boycott campaign against “Dor Alon”. Thousands of citizens have already joined this effort. The Mossawa Center, along with other civil society actors, warns Dor Alon of the consequences of persecuting Arab workers who have already been victimized by a racist attack. Following public pressure, MK Yousef Atawneh announced that the company has retracted its decision to dismiss Abu Asa.
