Israeli Strikes Target Refugee Camp Near Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital

On Sunday night, October 14, 2024, Israeli military forces launched airstrikes on a refugee camp located near Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza. This assault targeted areas designated for humanitarian refuge, resulting in the deaths of four individuals and several injuries, as confirmed by Gaza’s Civil Defense. Among the wounded is journalist Safinaz al-Louh, who was injured during the bombing of the displacement tents.

These operations continue despite a noted reduction in military activities by Hamas in and outside Gaza. Concurrently, the Israeli army has escalated airstrikes on northern Gaza, aiming to displace residents from the region. The Jabalia refugee camp remains under siege, with reports emerging of bodies trapped inside homes, unable to be buried due to the ongoing blockade.

The broader strategy behind these attacks appears to be the forced evacuation of civilians from northern Gaza. The Israeli government’s objectives reportedly include controlling the Philadelphi Corridor, dividing Gaza, and establishing a security buffer zone to separate the local population from Israeli towns adjacent to the Strip.
