Racial Incitement On Social Media Following Arab Fatalities by Hezbollah Rockets

In recent weeks, alarming levels of racial incitement against Palestinian Arab citizens have been permitted on social media, with Israeli police failing to intervene. This escalation follows the tragic incident in which Arjwan Mana’ from Majd al-Krum and Hassan Ali Suwa’ed from Ba’ana were killed by rocket strikes.

In response to the hostile and incendiary rhetoric comments posted by extremist Jewish individuals, MK Ahmad Tibi, leader of the Joint List and the Arab Movement for Change, has formally urged the Attorney General to launch an immediate investigation. Through Attorney Osama Saadi, MK Tibi called for inquiries targeting all individuals who engaged in hate crimes, incitement to violence, or promoted racial hatred.

MK Tibi’s appeal comes as extremist groups have left an overwhelming number of comments across social platforms, celebrating the tragic losses and inciting further violence and racism toward Arab citizens. This surge of hateful expression unfolded within moments of reports on rocket strikes in Majd al-Krum and Tarshiha, which tragically led to casualties and injuries.

Addressing the Attorney General, MK Tibi stressed that he has no expectations for action from the current National Security Minister, Ben-Gvir, or from police forces, whom he holds accountable for complicit neglect in addressing violence within Arab communities—resulting in nearly 200 Arab fatalities. Recently, police actions have been scrutinized following the arrest of Intisar Hijazi, which MK Tibi cited as part of a campaign of unjustified detentions of Arab citizens under dubious claims.

According to data from the Mossawa Center, since October 7, 2023, Israeli police have detained approximately 400 Arab citizens over allegations of incitement, with at least 120 facing formal charges and detention extensions. Arab institutions have issued strong warnings to Israeli media, urging them to halt the publication of racially inflammatory remarks on their platforms and emphasizing their responsibility to prevent the spread of such dangerous incitement.
