For the fifth consecutive day, tension continued in East Jerusalem due to the repression, siege, and punitive measures imposed by the Israeli occupation forces on Shuafat camp, and the closure of all crossings leading to the camp, the town of Anata, and the neighboring suburb of Salam.
occupation forces continue to chase the young man Uday Al-Tamimi, the son of the camp, against the background of an operation he carried out at the camp’s checkpoint, when, last Saturday, he opened fire at the occupation soldiers at the checkpoint, killing the female soldier Noa Lazer (18 years old) and causing severe injuries to another recruit.

In the events, another young man was also wounded by a bullet to the foot, fired by the occupation army, during the confrontations in Al-Aroub.

The residents of Shuafat camp had declared open civil disobedience, calling on the rest of the residents of occupied East Jerusalem to join their disobedience. Indeed, Jerusalem witnessed a commitment to civil disobedience and strike, and the suspension of all schools in Shuafat camp and a protest vigil was organized in the camp. According to statistics from the camp, 30,000 citizens did not go to work today, and more than 4,000 students did not go to their schools. The people of Shuafat and East Jerusalem write a new page in the book “The Challenge and Confronting the Arbitrary Measures of the Occupation against the Palestinian People in Jerusalem.” The residents refused to leave the camp, despite repeated loudspeaker calls from the occupation soldiers that the military checkpoint was “open”, but rather committed themselves to the civil disobedience they declared. Several Palestinian universities joined the strike in solidarity, including Birzeit University, Al-Quds Abu Dis, Hebron University, Bethlehem University, and Al-Quds Open University.
