The Israeli state compensates the children of an Arab citizen who was killed by two detectives in 2015

The prosecution supported the decision of the Bureau of Investigations with the Policemen and the brutal shooting carried out by the two detectives; Rather, I only made a recommendation Rather, it only recommended that disciplinary measures be taken against the two detectives. Even this recommendation was not implemented by the police.

Recently, an agreement was reached to settle financial compensation in the case of the murder of an Arab citizen by police fire seven years ago. When a citizen of an Arab village was killed at the entrance to Jerusalem, he was shot in the back by a police investigation during a chase.

The deceased was riding in a car with another person on his way to a wedding. Minutes later, an undercover police patrol began chasing the vehicle. The deceased was killed while sitting next to the former, and there was no danger to the life of the police investigators. The investigators knew the owner of the car and where he lived, and they could send a police patrol to the aforementioned address to arrest the driver, who was suspected of participating in an accident, an hour before the car chase began.

It is reported that the victim had nothing to do with the incident that preceded the police chase, and unfortunately for him boarded the suspect’s vehicle as a passenger. The two police detectives opened fire from the undercover patrol window while traveling at a high speed, without taking into account the possibility of this brutal result of their shooting.

For two years, Ami Hollander – the victims’ sons of the attorney & Mossawa Center representative, demanded the Police Investigations Bureau (Mahash) complete the investigation into the file and the incident, punish the detective who opened the fire, and compensate the orphaned children (minors). Representatives Nachman Shai (from the Labor Party and deputy speaker of the Knesset at the time) and Osama al-Saadi (the Joint List, Arab for Change) joined this demand.

And only two years later, the Bureau of Investigation with Policemen informed Hollander of his decision to close the investigation file, and only after an additional 3 months of receiving the investigation files at the Bureau of Investigation with Policemen, it turned out that a few hours after the shooting, the deputy head of the Bureau of Investigation with Policemen at the time decided – Moshe Saadia,  to close the file directly and not to investigate despite the strange circumstances of the shooting and the brutal outcome.

The appeal lodged by attorney Hollander and the Mossawa Center for the Prosecutions yielded no results. The prosecution supported the decision of the Bureau of Investigations with the Policemen and the brutal shooting carried out by the two detectives; Rather, it only recommended that disciplinary measures be taken against the investigations. Even this recommendation was not implemented by the police.

Seven years after the incident in which the father of the orphaned children was killed by a police detective, a settlement was reached, and the settlement was approved by the court, according to which the police will pay financial compensation to the children of the victim.
